DEAD LIKE ME
A young woman named Georgina ( the great Ellen Muth) dies but she's not allowed to go to heaven. Instead she's recruited to become a grim reaper, someone who's dead but doesn't get a free ride in death, as she must hold down regular jobs along with their death duties. So in between constant rows with her reaper boss (the wonderfully deadpan Mandy Patinkin), collecting souls, and pleasing her extremely obtrusive superior at her day job, she has to come to terms with her fate, her temptations of returning
home to her family, the tragic deaths that are her everyday life, and figure out a thing or two about the world. Did we mention that it's hilarious? (HS)
FIREFLY
After the demise of the ingenious Buffy-The Vampire Slayer and the soon-to-be-over show Angel, Joss Whedon created the ill-fated Firefly, a Sci-Fi/Western hybrid that was cancelled by ignorant TV executives after just one season. Well, we could go on ranting, complaining and foaming at the mouth about how much we hate the guys in charge but instead we take a deep breath, and highly recommend this original series to you. Watch out for Adam Baldwin (Animal Mother in Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket) as the tough but dead dumb thug Jayne. (HS)
