Point Blank

Some Warnings from Hias: It's all about Love, Mystic River.

IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE
Thomas Vinterberg's long awaited turn away from the Dogme Movement to big cinema. Unfortunatly the movie didn't really benefit from this change. Although it stars gorgeous as ever Joaquin Phoenix and has some nicely absurd ideas, I could not help thinking: Where the hell is he heading with this? Too many plot twists, senseless genre shifting and above all a not so original message pounded in my head with a sledgehammer: love is kinda good, you know. Yes, I do. But this film is not much more than a half-hearted affair.

MYSTIC RIVER
Just another proof that an allstar cast and a successful novel doesn't automaticaly guarantee a great movie. Seems like good old Clint got a little lost in this mess of pointless narration and dubious character development. If you want an urban drama set in NYC, we strongly recommend the »25th hour« or »Summer of Sam« instead, both directed by Spike Lee.
