PIECES OF APRIL
You should know that nobody likes cranberry sauce from the can, and then you should get a suit and you must find an oven (or is it stove?) to put that half-baked turkey in and don’t forget to decorate the flat. On the other hand you better go grab some donuts before you get there and if you hit anything on your way, be it rascal or very small raccoon give it a good burial and don’t sing too much and always take a lot of pictures. What this is all about? Well, it’s about this special day when suddenly everybody realized that they can’t get along on their own. And that it’s sometimes better to stick together. Mind that we are not talking about a Christmas movie here. It’s a Thanksgiving movie. And by the way the quirkiest, funniest, most heartwarming ever made. Highly recommended for everyone who has a family and sometimes can’t help wishing he/she doesn’t.
SCUM
The debut for british top-notch actor Ray Winstone shows the cruel treatment young offenders were given during the seventies in so called borstal homes in the UK. Don't get mislead by the very exploitative cover design. This is anything but a B-picture Prisonmovie, but one of the finest most depressing dramas about correctional facilities ever made. The reason it was banned so long in Britain was outright political and had almost nothing to do with its depiction of graphic violence.
