It's television

Both BBC in Britain and HBO in the States have continuously set new standards in TV-Shows. Cracker, Prime Suspect, K-Street, The Long Firm, The Office to name just a few, which we are more than happy to present to you.

Prime Suspect (BBC)
While German crime shows have suffered a one and a half decade of constant decline in quality, which they tried to compensate by adding a ridiculously over-the-top focus on yellow press topics, their British equivalents have reached new heights of realism. Helen Mirren stars in this six part mini-series as a charismatic, smart, tough DCI in London. Not only does she have to solve one brutal murder after the other she also has to struggle with her chauvinist co-workers. A very decent camera work and direction, top actors down to the smallest part and intelligent, suspenseful scripts will help you make it through a lot of long winter evenings. Prime Suspect is as dark, realistic and entertaining as hardly anything else when it comes to whodunits.

Cracker (BBC)
Robbie Coltrane plays Eddie Fitzgerald, drinker, gambler, womanizer, father of two and psychology professor, who regularly helps the Manchester police as a profiler. Following a more persistent storyline than Prime Suspect and concentrating even more on the interrogation process, Cracker makes another fine, dark point in its nine feature-length episodes.

K-Street (HBO)
You thought The West Wing gave you an inside look at US politics? Well, think again, cause K-Street takes the concept of a political drama series miles further. There are only three professional actors involved. All the rest of the cast are actual lobbyists, consultants and politicians, playing themselves. The story revolves around Carvin-Matallin an agency doing lobby work for mostly conservative interest groups and politicians. The show is a solid mix of mockumentary and drama series that will sometimes scare you and sometimes make you laugh out loud at the absurdity of politics as a daily business.

The Long Firm (BBC)

Set in the swingin 60ies in London, The Long Firm revolves around Mob Boss Harry Stark, one of the most sinister, charismatic anti-heroes in the history of television.

The Office - Christmas Special(BBC)
We have waited two long years and now it is finally here. If you don't know the original series The Office, shame on you. Do yourself the favor and start from scratch with the best comedy show of the decade. Everybody else should be more then happy to meet David, Tim, Dawn and Gareth for another one and a half hours of sheer madness.
